East Brunswick sisters Carmen and Emily Phu were first-place winners

East Brunswick sisters Carmen and Emily Phu were first-place winners in the Protect Me With 3+ contest, a statewide initiative sponsored in part by the New Jersey Department of Health that aims to raise awareness for adolescent vaccination.

The contest asks middle and high school students to create educational posters or videos about one of four vaccines: HPV, meningococcal conjugate, Tdap or the flu. After receiving more than 200 poster and video entries, Carmen’s poster was selected as one of five finalists in the high school poster category and Emily’s poster was selected as one of five finalists in the middle school poster category.

Carmen Phu, 16, is a junior at East Brunswick High School. Her entry focused on specifically Meningococcal Disease. Emily Phu is an eighth-grader at Churchill Junior High School. Her submission illustrates how vaccinations can help prevent the flu.
